The Charles Wood Festival of Music and Summer School is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr Edward Wilson CBE, Chairperson of Ulster Carpets, as the first patron of the Charles Wood Girls’ Choir.

The Charles Wood Girls’ Choir, which was made possible by the generous support of Ulster Carpets and Arts and Business NI, made an impressive debut at the Charles Wood Festival last August, and plans for their programme of events this year are already well under way.

Chairperson of the Charles Wood Festival, Richard Yarr, commented: ‘Edward was involved with the formation of the Girls’ Choir from very early on. We have enjoyed his enthusiasm and unfaltering support at every stage of development. For us he was the only choice when identifying a Patron and we look forward to this next chapter.’

Edward responded to the invitation to become Patron, saying: ‘I am delighted and thrilled to have been asked to be patron to the Charles Wood Girls' Choir. The Charles Wood Festival has been one of the highlights of music making in Ireland for many years and the introduction of the Girls’ Choir in 2017, drawn from schools all over the country, enhanced the Charles Wood experience still further. I wish the 2018 Choir a successful, fulfilling and enjoyable season’.

The appointment of a new patron marks a particularly exciting development for the Charles Wood Girls’ Choir, who have also had the honour of making the shortlist in the New Sponsor Category of the prestigious Allianz Arts & Business NI Awards to be held in Belfast this month.
